Problem

A teacher has \(18\) markers and \(24\) pencils. She wants to make as many identical supply bags as possible with nothing left over. Every bag must contain the same number of markers and the same number of pencils. How many supply bags can she make?

What this problem is really about

Making identical bags with nothing left over means the bag count must divide both supply totals. Because the teacher wants as many bags as possible, we’ll compare the factors of eighteen and twenty-four and use the greatest factor they share. Dividing both totals by that count checks that every bag has the same contents.
