Compare and order rational numbers written as fractions, decimals, and percents.

Classify rational numbers by benchmark range

Problem

Classify \(35\%\), \(0.72\), \(5/4\), \(3/8\), and \(0.99\) as below \(1/2\), between \(1/2\) and \(1\), or above \(1\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

We’ll use zero point five and one as the two benchmark boundaries and rewrite every mixed-form value as a decimal. Each value then gets tested against both boundaries before it enters a range. That second comparison matters because being above one half does not automatically mean being below one.
