Match and compare words, tables, graphs, and simple equations that represent the same relationship.

Rewrite both forms before comparing

Problem

Representation \(A\) is a \(\$12\) gym signup fee plus \(\$8~\text{per}~\text{visit}\). Representation \(B\) is \(y~=~8x~+~12\). State each relationship's starting value and rate, then determine whether they match.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Put both representations into the same start-and-rate summary before judging equivalence. In the story, separate the one-time signup fee from the repeating per-visit charge; in the equation, read the constant term and the coefficient of the visit variable in those same roles. Matching units and one test input provide an independent check.
