Break a composite figure into easier pieces

Problem

A composite figure is made by attaching a triangle to \(\text{one}~\text{side}\) of a rectangle. The rectangle measures \(9~\text{cm}\) by \(7~\text{cm}\). The triangle is attached along the rectangle’s \(7~\text{cm}\) side, so the triangle’s base is \(7~\text{cm}\). The triangle’s perpendicular height is \(4~\text{cm}\). Find the total area of the figure in square centimeters.
