Break a composite figure into easier pieces

Problem

A garden shape can be split into a parallelogram and a triangle. The parallelogram has a base of \(10~\text{units}\) and a perpendicular height of \(6~\text{units}\). A triangle is attached along a side of the parallelogram that is \(6~\text{units}\) long, so the triangle’s base is \(6~\text{units}\). The triangle’s perpendicular height, measured straight out from that \(6\text{-}\text{unit}\) side, is \(3~\text{units}\). Find the total area of the garden in square units.
